Birth Day is a documentary exquisitely capturing the beauty of a natural home birth in the lush mountain countryside of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
At the heart of this DVD is the exquisite birth of Tamaya Okumura. Tamaya arrives in the loving hands of her mother, midwife, Naoli Vinaver. Naoli narrates over the images what she was feeling and thinking during labor. Tamaya's entire family participates on the day she arrives. First they go to the river for a celebratory picnic, then they return home for a family dinner. After dinner, they wait patiently while Naoli paces up and down and Tamaya works her way slowly down the birth canal into their embrace.
One viewer remarked, "Laboring with Hiroyuki must be like having a Zen experience." The chapters give us more Hiroyuki, more Naoli, and more insight into what is needed for birth to be beautiful, safe and natural.
Ranging in time from one minute to ten, are interviews with the Grandparents, Midwife Cindy Lara Haag, Dr. Jeanine Tgettis and Professor Cheryl Knott. One chapter titled "Visita Prenatal" follows Naoli in the countryside of Xalapa, Mexico as she cares for an expectant mother. Another chapter, "Besos" shows how deliciously loving birth can be.
